EXECUTIVE OVERVIEW – Direct Primary Care linked to Self-insured Wellness Districts.
Direct primary care is not insurance nor is it a health plan. Therefore, DPC should be associated with a comprehensive self-insured program to provide complimentary, comprehensive seamless coverage. Each is a separate and distinct piece to the same puzzle.
The essence of this work is to examine the establishment and operation of locally controlled, economically self-sustaining, wellness districts to provide high quality medical care at the lowest possible cost to rural communities or urban districts. A Wellness District is composed of the local physician service area, and ideally, having an integrated relationship with local critical access or community hospitals. The Wellness Districts will function on the basis of the following components to create a seamless process of medical care from initial contact with a physician through the most complex and traumatic intervention.
